Melody C. Powell is a native of Bradenton, Florida and began her career in education in 1996. Ms. Powell is an alumna of Bethune-Cookman University where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1995. Upon completion, Ms. Powell taught kindergarten and third grade at Bonner Elementary in Daytona Beach, Florida in the Volusia County Schools district. In 1999, Ms. Powell took on the role of a behavior modification teacher in Manatee County Public Schools where increased positive behavior by 88% at Wakeland Elementary. In 2001, Ms. Powell relocated to Fulton County where she taught first through fourth grades at Heritage Elementary. During her time at Heritage Elementary, Ms. Powell earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College and assumed many teacher leader roles. After six years in Fulton County, Ms. Powell came to Clayton County Public Schools where she taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Read 180 to sixth through eighth grade students at Adamson Middle. Ms. Powell has also served as the Lead Mentor to novice teachers as well as written and implemented a successful mentoring program for the school. During the 2013-2014 school year, Ms. Powell was voted teacher of the year by her peers and acknowledged by the Georgia House of representatives as a Distinguished Educator in the state of Georgia. Ms. Powell currently serves in the role of Assistant Principal at Adamson where she played an instrumental role in decreasing discipline referrals and improving positive behavior.

Ms. Powell has been active with youth sports in the Rex-Ellenwood area of Clayton County for many years. She was also a founding parent of Boy Scout Troop 3499 at the Carl Rhodonizer Recreation Center in Rex, GA.

As Ms. Powell enters her 11th year at Adamson Middle and 22nd year in education, she continues to build rapport with stakeholders. She believes all children can learn and their natural talents or abilities should be supported to promote entrepreneurship.

Ms. Powell enjoys researching holistic health, encouraging others, and being the best version of herself.  She receives the most joy of being the mother of one son, Myles.
